Hancock

has the name of the first signer of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, born in Miami and lives in Los Angeles, is an alcoholic, has super powers that can not handle, is despised by criminals and unpopular among the citizens, John Hancock, aka Hancock. Inadequate and flawed superhero, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey, director of a public relations firm. Loving father and caring husband, Ray takes to heart that if super-human, investing time and energy to rehabilitate and redeem man's hero in the eyes of the community. Suspend alcohol, shave, wear a costume appropriate to land soft and elegant on the asphalt, to praise the police, passers-by and please pay particular prison with the damage caused to public goods, are just some Hancock actions of good-will to practice to get approval of its citizens. But some flaws, like a past love, die hard.
There is something mysterious and fascinating in the first third of Hancock : melancholy and wonder in silent shots to widen out a Los Angeles under siege from criminals and homeless people abandoned a superhero on a bench. John Hancock, superhero with the vice of alcohol and exaggeration, not the past "narrative" of the heroes (s) masked the American popular culture (the comics ). It is the first hero of a comic book that will never leave. This is the first adventure of a superhero who has never practiced the strips and was not never expressed in "clouds". Hancock was born in the cinema. Yet there is something common between the primordial and recognizable 'unbreakable Will Smith and other superheroes. They are men over other men, whose great powers become both a gift and a curse, the instrument of a divine mission and the source of endless anxiety. Superman is a child abandoned by his parents on an unknown planet, Spiderman accidentally acquires his superpowers without being able ever to leave, the X-Men live isolated because of their mutations, the Hulk becomes a superhero through frequent crises "epileptic" and Hancock was born with great power and two tickets to the Frankenstein married to Boris Karloff.
The suspicion of the beautiful squalor of his life and the extraordinary event in an ordinary context are the most interesting topics of melodrammasupereroico Peter Berg, who crash-lands in the remaining two thirds as the superhero on the City of Angels. Hancock suddenly becomes another movie and then another, losing his balance to the narrative they are unable to get up. Among recognitions (the discovery of his true identity) and suffering "broken heart" (love found and lost), the story of Hancock is elementary and gives way to a mawkish sentimentality: a "princess" to be saved, by virtue the times we live in is not limited to call for help, but actively participating and (super) heroic action. An action soup where the din of explosions and the outline of the story (embodied by Charlize Theron) becomes the only important things. And the super-Smith Hancock adapts.
