The protagonists are two cops on duty in a California town, very different in temperament and style of life but joined by a great friendship.
David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser ) is the policeman of the road, curls blacks and shamble, now the Academy of Police after a difficult childhood (he was in charge of his mother and younger brother after his father's murder) and experience of the war in Vietnam. Messy, disheveled, impulsive, eats only fast food and is never separated by the automatism hidden under a brown leather jacket.
Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul) is instead son of a farmer, and entered the Academy after having left school to college. Reserved, shy, intuitive, sometimes almost in spite of the massive intellectual Colt wielding against criminals, macrobiotic diets and exercise to stay in shape.
